Heartbreaking Finding Kai Lloyd's mother and father discovered his body in his room at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021. False Allegations Start The investigation learned how his mother got a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a woman asking if Kai was her offspring. The communication stated: "Inform him appreciation for burgling my flat." In a testimony presented to the proceedings, the mother said the woman had been in the news, claiming her baby's ashes had been stolen in a burglary - a claim which was false. Law Enforcement Inquiry An official inquiry from authorities later concluded the alleged burglary victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said items was never stolen in the first place". News coverage about the alleged taken ashes attracted online responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his mother said people "knew it was him". The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she stated. Mental Health Effect She added that Kai had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' opinions really mattered to him. "This must have hurt him deeply," she said, "especially when this was untrue". Kai was detained at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later released pending further inquiry. Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest heard, but had not reached out to the family by the moment of his passing. Withdrawal and Worry His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like much longer". When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her son informed her he had entered the house because the woman who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom whenever he wanted, but denied taking anything. Online Bullying In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her child was being harassed online after the accusations. The inquest learned that a young adult encouraged Kai to end his life. She had no concerns on the evening before he died, describing how she had heard him "chuckling and teasing". She described him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is completely shattered". He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she stated, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him". Educational Reaction The hearing heard from school staff at the local High School. On November 8th, she "overheard some students discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the first I learned". "He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued. After the conversation, the educator said she rang the family's family telephone and left a message saying she had spoken to the student about the accusations. The proceedings heard his parents said they did not receive that communication. Formal Conclusion Lead coroner informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent deaths report. Delivering a descriptive conclusion, he stated: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against the teenager, a young child. "Probably falsehoods were afterwards exaggerated and amplified through the medium of social media. "On November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and following his interview he was released whilst investigations continued." The coroner concluded: "Exists no proof that the actions or failures of any agency caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted action it is impossible to discern his intent."
